It won five 2018 Helpmann Awards, including Best Original Score. Kate has been widely praised for her unique ability to combine moving, heartfelt songs and laugh out loud humour. She's classically trained, yet her style crosses contemporary pop, folk and opera. Her songs are stamped with witty humour and poignant insight - always touching. At Australia’s first ever national final for the Eurovision Song Contest, Eurovision - Australia Decides, on the Gold Coast in February 2019, Kate won both the jury and public votes to become Australia’s representative at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv, where she will perform her latest single Zero Gravity, written by herself and collaborator Keir Nuttall.
Kate is currently working on material for her 5th studio album. 'Zero Gravity is an operatic pop song about coming out of depression.
It uses the metaphor of a bad relationship to describe what it can feel like to be depressed. The choruses and the outro try to capture the feeling of transcendence. I love the double meaning of the word 'Gravity' - that the song can also be about leaving seriousness behind. I've never done anything like the Eurovision before. I do feel vulnerable putting myself out there in a competitive setting. I'm trying to ignore that element, and thinking of it as a very eclectic celebration of music.
I think there will be a lot of solidarity amongst the performers'. Zero Gravity is about emerging from depression into balance again. It tries to capture the sensation of colour returning.Posted by on Kate Miller-Heidke said: 'I'm totally overwhelmed!
